FAQs

  • Having "limited liability" status means that a company is considered a separate legal entity from its owners. This distinction can facilitate the process of securing business loans and investments, as lenders and investors often perceive limited companies as more stable entities. Additionally, limited companies may enjoy tax advantages compared to other business structures.

  • Limited companies are currently subject to Corporation Tax at a rate of 19%, which is paid on their total profits after deducting allowable business expenses. Unlike sole traders or partnerships, limited companies are not liable to pay Income Tax or National Insurance contributions on their business income. If you have any uncertainties or questions regarding your tax obligations as a limited company, please don't hesitate to reach out to us for assistance.

  • The first £1,000 of dividends received is tax-free, serving as an allowance. Any dividends beyond this allowance are subject to taxation based on an individual's tax bracket. By adding dividend income exceeding the allowance to total income, one can determine their tax bracket for dividends. Dividend income up to £50,270 falls within the basic rate, taxed at 8.75%. Income ranging from £50,271 to £125,140 is subject to the higher rate of 33.75%. Dividends pushing total income beyond £125,141 face the additional rate of 39.35%. These rates are applicable to dividends received from shares held in limited companies.

  • A Limited Company is legally distinct from its shareholders and directors, establishing a separate legal entity. In contrast, self-employed individuals' business and personal affairs are treated as a single entity for tax purposes.

  • The registration fee is £12 and can be paid using a debit or credit card or through PayPal. You'll need at least three pieces of personal information about yourself, your shareholders, or guarantors, such as telephone number, national insurance number, and passport number. Typically, your company is registered within 24 hours. If you prefer not to use "limited" in your company name, you must register by post. Instructions for registering your company can be found on HMRC's website.

  • Operating your business as a Limited Company offers a significant advantage in terms of personal tax savings compared to being a sole trader. Limited Company profits are subject to UK Corporation Tax, currently set at 19%. In contrast, as a sole trader, your entire income is subject to National Insurance Contribution (NIC) rules.
